Meet Sarah

I am Chinese Malaysian and my people traveled from the southern region of China in Canton to Malaysia many moons ago in pursuit of economic opportunity to provide a better life for themselves and their families. As savvy entrepreneurs with the desire to gather resources in service to family and community, these are the traits I have inherited from my ancestors. Now, my home is in Kalamazoo, Michigan where I live with my husband and baby boy, the loves of my life.

Leading with love has been a life-long learning pursuit of mine. As a marketing communications leader for more than 20 years, I relished analytics to make informed decisions. However, data insights alone were not enough when it came to addressing social issues in my community. It required leading with love and compassion in collaboration with others toward a shared vision.

Here at Fetzer, I get to bring both my heart and logical mind to the work as the marketing and audience outreach officer. I am energized by the strategy of applying spiritual and funding solutions to social problems in our global community. An investment strategy like this is truly built to nurture healing and sustainable solutions for many generations to come.

Before I joined Fetzer, I spent 18 years in marketing, public relations, and journalism in a variety of industries including philanthropy, hospitality, entertainment, professional hockey, business association, and publishing. I pursued a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in organizational communications from Western Michigan University. In my local community, I am a board member at Stulberg International String Competition and co-founder of Southwest Michigan Journalism Collaborative.
